Cooking from scratch and making Egg Pan Hoppers regularly means I go through a lot of eggs. Eggshells have a multitude of uses, but a fun activity to do with the kids is to make Grass Egg Heads. This activity takes under ten minutes to do, and requires very little maintenance afterwards to keep the hair growing.
We make the Grass Egg Heads regularly, with the kids given the reward of watering their egg each day, as well as cutting the hair when it begins to grow out of control.
To make Grass Egg Heads you will need
Eggshells cleaned and dried
Using the permanent marker, draw faces onto the egg shell(s).
Tease the cotton wool out and push down gently into the egg shell(s).
Sprinkle a little water into the top, if the cotton wool sinks down add more, sprinkling extra water.
Take a few pinches of grass seeds and scatter these onto the cotton wool.
Leave the egg head in a well-lit area, sprinkling water every second day, or more regularly if the cotton wool appears dry.
Tips and Suggestions
Glue facial features on such as googly eyes and moustache stickers instead of drawing these.
Alpalpha can be used instead of grass.
Larger grass heads can be created with some panty hose, placing grass seeds in the toe and stuff with cotton wool or sawdust.
