Burger Pies are on my partners list of favourite meals or snacks. It’s usually once a fortnight that I make Burgers from scratch, the leftovers I use the following day to make Burger Pies.
Cooked and ready to serve in under ten minutes, Burger Pies are an easy meal to please everyone at the dinner table.
To Make Burger Pies
For the filling, I use cooked ingredients left over from the previous night’s burgers, this usually consists of:
- Beef Patties (cooked and cooled)
- Red Onion
- Barbecue Sauce
- Hard Boiled Eggs (prepared earlier)
- Bacon (cooked and cooled)
Set aside puff pastry and allow to defrost whilst preparing the filling ingredients, and pre-heating the pie maker.
Excluding the egg, chop and mix all the filling ingredients in a bowl.
Cut/shape the pastry and place into the base of a pie maker, add half of a hard boiled egg, then place the filling on top and around the egg.
Place on top the puff pastry lid and cook for 8 minutes.
Tips and Tricks
When I am not time poor, I also make my own puff pastry in my thermomix, using the recipe available at Super Kitchen Machine Website. This pastry is far tastier than the store bought.
Burger Pies freeze and reheat well for work lunches or midnight snacks.
These instructions are for an electric pie maker, a traditional pie dish and oven can be used as an alternative with some tweaking to times and quantities
Filling ingredients can be added to, removed or increased in proportion according to preference of the consumer.
My boys don’t like the texture of hard boiled eggs, this may need to be omitted for young kids.
